Week 7: Teen Week! July 28 – Aug 1
This week of Summer Camp is all about our students Grade 7 – 12.
Get ready for a week of creative heists! We’ll explore the fascinating concept of “stealing” from art history, a philosophy embraced by none other than the legendary painter Wayne Thiebaud. A self-pronounced “art thief,” he wasn’t afraid to borrow from the greats and make their ideas his own. Just like Thiebaud, we’ll dive into the world of classic art, pulling inspiration from the past to create something entirely new.
Our journey starts with a field trip to the Legion of Honor in San Francisco, where we’ll immerse ourselves in the exhibit “Wayne Thiebaud: Art Comes From Art.” Now fully aligned with the mindset of a bandit, we’ll become art thieves ourselves, gobbling up inspiration from Rodin’s “The Thinker,” and creating our own self-portrait sculpture back at the studio.
This week, you’ll learn how to steal ideas, rework them, and make them your own—creating art that is both timeless and personal!
